Toastmasters
in North Carolina have named author and speaker, Forrest C.
Greenslade, PhD as Toastmaster of the Year. Past District
37 Governor, Larry Brown stated, “During the past year,
Forrest demonstrated his Communication & Leadership skills
by executing a plan to increase the recognition of North
Carolina Toastmasters locally, regionally, and around the
World.”
Toastmasters International is the leading movement
devoted to making effective oral communication a worldwide
reality. Through its member clubs, Toastmasters helps men and
women learn the arts of speaking, listening and thinking --
vital skills that promote self-actualization and enhance
leadership potential.
“Through his Vision and Leadership as our state’s Public
Relations Officer, Forrest formed a Website Committee that
worked as a unified team to transition our Internet presence
to the next level,” Brown said. “The production of our
World Class Website resulted in positive feedback from
Members/Prospects throughout the State, Region, and from
several Countries around the World.” Brown continued, “Forrest
also served the Membership of North Carolina as Co-Chairperson
of the 2001 Spring Conference at the Marriott Hotel in
Research Triangle Park, NC. His Vision and Organization Skills
were evident as this oft-publicized event was one of the most
well-attended and enjoyable Spring Conferences in recent
memory.”
Dr. Greenslade writes and works from his home in Fearrington
Village, NC. A retired scientist and manager, he has held
leadership positions in some of the world’s largest
pharmaceutical and public health organizations. Most recently,
he served as President of Ipas, an international women’s
health agency. Greenslade is author of over 140 books, book
chapters, scientific papers and web articles. His latest book,
“The Simple-Minded Manager: Cutting Through Your
Work-Life Chaos,” is for leaders and people striving to
be leaders. He extends his “Simple-Minded Management”
lessons through speeches and workshops.
Greenslade, a member of the Bull City Toastmasters Club in
Durham, NC since 1995, has recently earned Toastmasters’
highest educational achievement, the Distinguished Toastmaster
Award. “Toastmasters is a wonderful laboratory for
developing new ideas and honing your communication skills,”
Greenslade says. “All of the ideas in my new book were first
tested as speeches to my friends at Bull City.”
Anna Holland, Past Toastmasters Division Governor for the
Research Triangle Area reflected, “For the many of us who
are lucky enough to have worked with Forrest one on one, we
know that he is a motivator, a mentor, and an true example of
leadership. He has spent countless hours helping others in
many clubs hone their thinking and speaking skills. We are
lucky to have Forrest as a shining example of all that
Toastmasters can bring to our lives.” Keith Ostergard,
previous Toastmaster of the Year, added, “Forrest has truly
embodied the vision that Toastmasters founder, Dr. Ralph
Smedley had when he formed the first Toastmasters club in
Santa Ana, CA in 1924 - to improve the world through better
communication.”
